Student, employee, instructor and dog receive donation check

Students enrolled in the Veterinary Technical Sciences program at the Allegan Area ESA Tech Center spend the school year mastering hands-on skills essential for basic animal care, including handling, vaccination, nutrition, and grooming techniques. Second year students can take part in off-site work-based learning or participate in the student-run grooming business, CaFe Pet Spa located at the Allegan Area ESA Tech Center.

This not-for-profit, multifaceted initiative benefits not only the students, but also pets and the community. It provides practical experience, develops essential skills, enhances communication abilities, and promotes animal welfare. Through this program, students are well-prepared for their future roles as competent, compassionate veterinary technicians. The program is cost-effective for its customers, with all proceeds from the weekly clinic donated throughout the community.

A record-setting year resulted in an impressive $10,000 donation to Paws With A Cause in Wayland. The donated funds will be used to aid in the growth and development of the organization and its training dogs. Student Jordyn TeHennepe and retiring instructor, Cindy Walker traveled to Wayland on June 26 to “Pay It Forward” by presenting staff and training dog with the donation.

Additionally, just over $8,700 was donated to Wishbone Pet Rescue Alliance located in Allegan and will be applied towards spay and neutering programs and assist in packing the pet food pantry program. Walker was able to present a check to staff earlier in the week.

Earlier in the school year, a third donation was also given to Ronald McDonald House Charities of West Michigan to help families stay together while their children are in the hospital.
