Students in Mrs. Randi Lown's middle/high school EI classroom presented a live living wax museum this week. Students were asked to research a historic person, make a trifold board about this figure, and write a speech to tell others about how he/she contributed to History. The students then became their character and shared their knowledge in the live wax museum, each student having a “button” they created to bring them to life. The students did incredible and we are so proud of their hard work and effort!! We are so proud of you!
Last week Ms. Ashley's class explored Allegan's history and Ms Randi's class learned about aviation at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo.

We concluded Educator Appreciation Week with our Celebration of Learning. There was cake, a video honoring staff members, awards, a barbecue, and plenty of camaraderie. Congratulations to the entire Allegan Area ESA staff on a successful 2022-23 school year. #beboldandthrive

Hillside is raising money to help support horseback riding at Renew Therapeutic Riding Center next school year.

This week the House and Senate passed their versions of the Fiscal Year 2024 school aid budget. I am pleased to announce that I am excited about these recommended numbers. These recommendations are historic in size, scope, and potential impact on the students and families served by Allegan Area ESA.
Some of the key recommendations include:
Historic funding for special education
Increased Early Literacy funding
Groundbreaking changes to Great Start Readiness Program services and funding
Including ISDs (like Allegan Area ESA) eligible for mental health and safety funding
Increased funding to support the well-being of students and staff
I am grateful to the subcommittees, led by former teachers, for their excellent work. I thank our area legislators for continuing to put our students first and placing a priority on their education and well-being. Thus, supporting our vision to "Ensure every learner, school, and community thrives".
I look forward to working together with our legislators to ensure future academic success for all students.
